Product Development
Useful knowledge in the development phase
Once the idea has crystallised and the product developers begin their work, the business can investigate patenting options and discover areas with patenting potential in connection with the development project.
A novelty search and an infringement search can be made to discover whether the invention is new, and - if so - whether it can be patented or whether there is a risk for infringing any existing patents.
Patent family searches will show the geographical coverage of existing patents and the status of the patent application in individual countries.
These types of information can enhance the investment of development cash and ensure that money is not wasted on a development whose end-product is already protected. At the same time the search provides information about the market.
With a freedom to operate search we can help you to define a specific technical field to secure knowledge of existing rights which can interfere with your development.
The development phase is often the point at which the business works on product design. It can be useful here to ask us to conduct a search which can provide inspiration during the design process and show whether the design may in fact infringe other design rights. Searches can also identify what already exists in the form of designs which are registered or have been applied for.
