Reduced translation costs
From May 1, 2008, the translation costs faced by patent proprietors will be lowered significantly.
Today, patent applications must be translated into all the national languages of the member states where the patent is to be valid. But with the London Agreement the demands for translations will be reduced. The cost reductions depend on the number of designated states, but calculations from the EPO estimate that costs related to an average patent application will be cut down from € 7000 to € 3600.
Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Monaco, Slovenia, Switzerland, the Neth-erlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom and France have approved the London Agreement.
