UK signed a contract with us in 2003 and the contract entered into force in April the same year. Originally, UK entered into the contract in order to reduce backlogs. The backlog problem was solved just after the first renewal of the contract. Today, the purpose of the contract is mainly to obtain flexibility in regard to the local staff and the effect of national laws and regulations on eg retirement schemes. The contractual work consists of performing searches and issuing search reports which the UK examiners can base their examinations on. The contract is renewed every two years.
