New Functionality in Submission of Electronic Patent Application

Published 18-12-2025

The Danish Patent and Trademark Office works continuously to develop and modernise our IT systems so they meet the needs and expectations of our customers. On 5 January 2026, we will launch new functionality in our submission system for electronic patent applications.

With the new feature in eFiling, it will be possible to add an organisation to the system.

This means that employees within the organisation can be set up as users and assigned different roles and rights in the system (Administrator, Drafter and Signer).

The workflow could be as follows:

  • The Administrator assigns the roles Drafter and Signer to relevant employees.
  • The Drafter prepares the patent application with data and attachments.
  • The application is approved by a user with the role of Signer.

The new functionality in eFiling offers several advantages:

  • The system generates a log file which shows who did what and when.
  • A "phase-indicator" will be visible at the top in the submission system, allowing users to view the status of the application at all times.
  • Roles allow for easier collaboration and faster feedback in relation to the patent application.
  • An improved overview of the application shows status and which user the application is currently handled by.

How to get started

As a start, the Danish Patent and Trademark Office will assist with setting up the organisation and users. We also offer an online introduction to the system.

In due course, the functionality will become a fully integrated self-service solution in eFiling.
